Academic acceleration is the advancement of students in subjects at a rate that places them ahead of where they'd be in normal school curriculum. This can include having the student
skip one or more grades in generalized or specific curriculum; for example, a student could be seven years old, in third grade, and doing the math curriculum for fifth grade.
Compacting is a subset of academic acceleration that involves covering standard curriculum at an accelerated rate, such as taking a year of math in one semester.
